Spring! or Slump?
Easter! Spring Break! Midterms! Finals!
Happy Easter! Spring is here :)
In spite of the season, a few of my students have hit a mid-semester slump.
Loosing steam… hard to concentrate… hard to see the big picture.
I’m here to help!!
What To Do During a Mid-Semester Slump
Instead of trying to “fix everything,” focus on small, manageable resets.
1. Get Clear on Where You Stand
Avoid guessing.
Look at your actual grades and assignments.
Ask:
What classes need the most attention right now?
What can still realistically improve?
Clarity reduces anxiety.
2. Pick One Class to Stabilize First
If everything feels overwhelming, do not try to tackle it all at once.
Choose one class and focus on:
Attending every lecture
Reviewing material daily
Go to the office hours!!!
Once one area feels more controlled, the rest becomes easier to manage.
3. Ask for Help Earlier Than Feels Comfortable
This is a big one.
Reach out to:
Professors
TAs
Tutors
Study groups
You do not need to be at a breaking point to ask for help.
Strong students use support early.
4. Adjust Your Expectations, Not Your Effort
You may not turn every grade into an A this semester.
That is okay.
Focus on:
Improving from where you are
Finishing strong
Learning the material
Progress matters more than perfection.
5. Take Care of the Basics
When you are overwhelmed, the basics are usually the first to go.
Try to reset:
Sleep
Meals
Movement
Breaks
These are not distractions. They are what help you function.
Choose One Area to Focus On
You do not need to overhaul your entire application overnight.
Instead, choose one area:
Experience
GPA
Organization
Confidence
Understanding the profession
Small, consistent progress is what builds strong applications.
My advice: Plan one thing for the summer, one experience or one class.
Then focus only on your grades!!
You Are Not Behind
It is easy to feel like everyone else has more hours, better grades, or a clearer path.
But you are only seeing part of their story.
Every pre-vet journey looks different.
Some students get in on their first try.
Others take more time.
Some discover this path later than others.
That does not make one path better than another.
No pressure! Take a deep breath!
This season is not about where you should be.
It is about what you do next.
If you are in a slump, this is your chance to reset.
If you feel behind, this is your chance to refocus.
You do not need to do everything.
You just need to take the next step forward.
Need my guidance? I got you!
